On Sunday, February 18, 2001 Interlaken Resort and Country Spa hosted the presentation of a check from the Classic Car Rally and the Corinne Kreissl Memorial Foundation, Inc., to Dave Grams, Midwest Region Director of the American Cancer Society, Wisconsin Division, Inc. Officers, directors and staff of the Lake Geneva based Memorial Foundation were on hand to give $24,217.00 to fund the grant known as the Corinne Kreissl Memorial Foundation Grant IRG 86004-14 for Cancer research by Dr. Robert Truitt, Ph.D. at the Medical College of Wisconsin.At the same time as the check presentation Dave Grams presented the American Cancer Society's most prestigious award, the Excalibur Award, to the Corinne Kreissl Memorial Foundation.
The Memorial Foundation's annual event known as the Lake Geneva Classic Car Rally is held each September and features a week-end long rally around Lake Geneva in both directions. Last September's Rally was the 23rd annual event and the amount raised since the original rally in 1978 totals $354,347.00.Interlaken Resort is the host site for the 24th annual event and September 29 and 30, are the 2001 dates. The week-end kicks-off with a "Taste of the Car Rally" party on Friday evening, September 28th at Craig and Samantha Richardson's home "Vagabond" on the south shore of Lake Geneva. A car show on Saturday morning by the lake front in Lake Geneva is planned before the dealing around the lake begins.
At 11 A.M. vehicles will parade through Lake Geneva on the way to Interlaken where a hospitality hour runs from 11:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. At the Abbey Resort a wood boat show and antique outboard motor display will be staged from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. sponsored by the Blackhawk Chapter of the Classic Boat Society. Yerkes Observatory will again be featured this year with an open house for all participants from 1:30 to 3 P.M. A photo opportunity with the observatory dome in the background will make interesting memorabilia photos. Eddie Cash will do a show for all participants at 3 P.M. at the Eddie Cash Theatre in Williams Bay.
On Saturday evening as in the past, the Riviera Ballroom will be the site of the Hubcap-Runningboard Dance, this year featuring Johnny Star and the Meteors with old time Rock 'n Roll. On Sunday, as Rally participants complete their around the lake tour, a car show will be staged on Interlaken grounds on Lake Como and weather permitting, a fly-over by antique aircraft and Warbirds from the World War II era will take place before the awards program and finale at 2:30 P.M. at the Chalet.
